DVDShrink

I tried DVDShrink last night and liked the simple interface and ability to
pick what you want and the compression. When I tried to do the backup
though it failed 2 times and I gave up. Got to about 40% each time. Not
sure if It will be worth it or not. Anyone else using it successfully?

Same here. Something other than the software is the problem here. Scratched
disc? Overheating or unstable system? Background app (screensaver or
otherwise) kicking in and spoiling things?

and have yet to have a problem. Perhaps it is some other software accessing
the drive. Have you tried removing it and re-installing it?

What DVD writer/reader are you using? Is the original DVD dual layer? If the
backup is failing at around the 40-50% level then it sounds as if your
hardware is having a problem transitioning between layers on a dual-layer
commercial DVD.

I had this problem with one DVD that I couldn't backup..........until I got
an Optorite(Sanyo) DD-203 DVD writer and it read the entire DVD without a
problem.

Have you been able to successfully backup other DVDs? What's the name of the
problematic DVD?

The truth is out there. You just have to look in the right places and ask
the right questions.

Try using your burner for process, takes longer but is more failsafe
with problem dvd's and old ones.

I am backing up to a 200 GB external USB 2 Drive. I have 22 GB left on my C
drive, so I will try to back to it. Maybe a latency problem?

Under ideal setting with kick ass external 120 gig maxtor 8 meg cache
sustained transfer on usb2 averages 10MB/s(equivalent to 7.5XRIP),
any lesser drive, you are gonna have problems.
Another reason to slow the rip down with a burner or shrink(compressing).

Update.......

I backed up Jumanji to my c drive last night and it worked sweet. Thanks
for everyones help here. By the way, when it is done with DVD 2 one, does
it adjust the compression of the video down to the size to fit on a dvd? Is
there a way to tell what percentage like on DVD Shrink?
