- Got my A06 today

Best Buy had a few of them and I picked one up. In very limited testing, it
works fine and the Ulead DVD Movie Factory 2 software that came with it also
works (but took a really long time to render a slideshow of random jpgs
laying around on the system).
It comes with 1 each Verbatim DVD-RW DVD-R blank media (no DVD+ media, so I
haven't tried that yet).
The DVD-RW video I whipped out for a test plays fine on a newer DVD player,
but not on my very old Sony player (didn't really expect it to work on the
old player). Haven't tried DVD-R since I don't want to eat the disc just for
a test.
The only problem I've had so far was attempting to configure Dantz
Retrospect 6.5 to work with it - while doing the hardware tests to configure
this (non certified) device, the drive got into some kind of non-responsive
hosed state. I had to shutdown and reboot to get things back (of course, I
didn't really expect it to work since it isn't in the approved hardware list
from Dantz, but it was interesting just how badly it got hung).
I'm surprised at the ease of use of the Ulead software. I remember being
utterly disgusted with the interface of the Ulead video software that came
with my ATI Radeon a few years ago. Ulead seems to have hired some new
interface design talent since then :-).
I'm off to go badger Dantz about how I'd really like support for the A06...

And it's no different whatsoever to the A05 appart from DVD+ and increased
CD write speed. Hmmmmm. I'd only use the DVD+RW feature as DVD-RW is crap
although you couldn't stop me using DVD-R at all.

Why is DVD-RW crap?
And considering the A06 could be had for £149 yesterday I would take
one over a A05 anyday, just for the extra security.

DVD+R disks have yet to come down to a reasonable cost, unlike the supposedly
inferior DVD-R disks.
For a supposedly inferior format, 90% compatibility for DVD-R as opposed 85% for
DVD+R disks with standalone DVD players looks pretty darn good to me.
