Maybe Nero 6.6 is different, but Nero 5.5.10.56 allows you to select
burn speeds, at or below the disc rated speed, via the writing speed
option on the burn tab in the compilation properties.

Weird thing is i just tried it and it gave me all the burn speed
options i could want ???

1,2,2, 2.4 anything. It seems to randomly do it for some reason ?

depends on the speed of dvd, some 8x discs dont let you go below 4x, why
would you want to anyway. 4x is safe for a 8x disc.

So 8x is fine. No need to burn 2x for compatability for old DVD
players ?

dont think that has anything to do wiht it does it? older players will play
the better brands of dvd's in my experience. but if you are using a 8x disc
with nero ( pioneer 16x drive ) , nero will give me 16x, 12x, 8x, 6x and 4x,
if i want to be safe i go 4x. but 8x is fine. i wouldnt go 12x or 16x
regularly with cheap discs.
