- illegal disc error-could not perform start of disc-at-once
- Posted by spylab on December 16th, 2003
Hi there,
I have an NEC DVD_RW ND-1300A and whenever i try to burn a DVD i get an error
saying.
_NEC DVD_RW ND-1300A, illegal disc.
_NEC DVD_RW ND-1300A, could not perform start of disc at once.
Any idea what the problem is. My drive supposedly supports DVDR + and - so
i can't see how it would be an illegal disc. I have tried putting data and
audio files onto the DVD's.
upgrate of firmware did not help
It burns normal CD's ok
I am running windows 2000 and nero 6.
Any suggestions?
by the way a nice site for NEC DVD_RW is http://www.herrie.org/index.php
Thanks in advance.

Not without knowing what type of disc you're using and how you're trying to
burn it. You can get that error from bad media or from trying to copy a
protected DVD.

I get the same illegal disc error with a Philips +RW DVD. It was working ok
last week. I have a LG 4040B burner. I can't format it or burn to it. I
even tried 6.3.0.0 and it still failed.
The weird thing is my Dad has the same Nero (6.0.0.28) and drive and it
works fine.

You can also get the error if you are trying to burn too much to the disc!
