Anyone know of a patch or alternative updater to upgrade the firmware
of a NEC ND1300A DVD+-R/RW drive when assembled in an external drive
enclosure?? (in my case, an USB 2.0 one).
I've spent hours going back and forth into NEC.com's web page hell
http://www.nec.com/cgi-bin/support/s...i?cat=download
http://www.nec.com/cgi-bin/products/...?cat_id=PC0011
Until I finally gave up and realized that there's no firmware at all
available directly from NEC.
The most recent firmware I was able to find is 1.11 dated February
2004
(my ND1300A comes with the factory default v1.06), and it's at Packard
Bell's site:
http://support.packardbell.com/uk/my...danube_ixtreme
However, the person who wrote the firmware updater made it look in the
first two ide channels, so the updater simply does not display any
DVD-R drive, and the firmware update can't proceed.
Before one of you say "why don't you just remove the drive from the
enclosure and install it in your PC, and do the firmware update", I
can't, because I only currently have the notebook I'm writing this on,
and the external dvd writer.
So, any ideas? I think the possible ones are:
-Annoy the clueless ##### who wrote the firmware updater utility
-Patch the firmware updater to look for drives in a given aspi/device
ID matching the ID of my enclosure
-Use an alternative firmware updater (designed for other drive) with
the right binary file.
Ideas? Thoughts? Comments?
