THE BIG FAMILY
Also Known As L ONORATA FAMIGLIA
Directed by Tonino Ricci in 1973 and starring Giancarlo Prete, Maria
Fiore, Richard Conte, Simonetta Stefanelli, Edmund Purdom and Raymond
Pellegrin
One of Sicily's most highly regarded businessmen turns out to be the
region's biggest criminal and there are few that would stand against
him. Giancarlo Prete arrives as the new commissioner and is known for
his integrity and ability to get things done! When the inevitable
clash that follows leads to the death of a young child and the violent
rape of Prete's lover, everybody soon learns how big the family really
is! As is common for Italian crime movies made in the early to mid
1970's (the golden age of the genre), there is a lot more happening
than just shotgun fights and car chases, though there's plenty of
that! This movie, and many others like it, is a violent poem about
corruption, loyalty, morality, honor and so much more. Along with the
under-appreciated 1971 giallo Cross Current, this is probably Ricci's
most accomplished film. Beautiful Italian locals act as scenic
backdrops to this stylish tale of blood and retribution that unfolds
on the screen. Mixing Bruno Nicolai's almost troublingly urgent music
into moments of suspense and/or action make this even more
recommendable! Enjoy The Big Family uncut and in English language with
Greek subtitles.
FORMULA FOR A MURDER
Also Known As 7 HYDEN PARK: LA CASA MALEDETTA
Directed by Alberto De Martino (As Martin Herbert) in 1985 and
starring Christina Nagy, David Warbeck and Rossano Brazzi
Joanna is a wealthy woman who has overcome many obstacles in her life.
When she was 11 years old a man dressed like a priest raped her and
threw her down a flight of cement stairs. As an adult she is confined
to a wheelchair because of the incident. She contributes to local
hospitals and charities so that people in similar conditions will have
programs to help them realize their potential. Also, she has fallen in
love with one of the fitness instructors that teaches fencing and
archery through the programs she funded. All good times, except for
one thing… Visions of a dark figure dressed as a priest and carrying a
blood-soaked doll have begun to haunt Joanna! Not even fully
understanding her own terror after having repressed the memory, she
seeks help from her lover (and eventually husband) Craig. The trouble
there is that Craig is the one dressing up as a priest and instigating
the horrible visions! All of this is just the beginning! An excellent
giallo featuring absolutely brutal murders and great performances from
the entire cast! The last twenty minutes is a grueling thrill-ride of
suspense, terror and violence! A fantastic way to wind up an
outstanding movie that starts over the top and never looks back!
Francesco De Masi provided the score, some of which has been recycled
from New York Ripper! As a special bonus we have included the trailer
for Evil Senses. This is totally uncut, very letterboxed, and in
English language with Japanese subtitles.
FIVE FOR HELL
Also Known As CINQUE PER L'INFERNO and FIVE INTO HELL
Directed by Gianfranco Parolini in 1969 and starring Gianni Garko,
Klaus Kinski, Aldo Canti, Margaret Lee, Sal Borgese and Luciano Rossi
Who can resist Klaus Kinski as a perverted Nazi Officer!? Gianni Garko
heads an all-star group of delinquent acrobatic American soldiers into
a Nazi occupied Villa to steal Hitler's top secret attack plan K. It
may have taken a good dozen ex-military cons to pull it off in the
U.S. but those Italians can do it with five soldiers! You know they
are in for a rough time when Kinski's first scene has him sicking his
German Shepards on a stray cat just for his own amusement! If that
wasn't enough, he's got his sick and twisted eyes on the beautiful
Margaret Lee, the underground operative working undercover for the
allies! With a rip-roaring upbeat score by Elsio Mancuso (Burial
Ground, Django The Bastard) and a story by writer Sergio Garrone, who
would later pen SS Experiment Love Camp and SS Camp Women's Hell,
you've got yourself a winning combination! It's some good old wartime
action that is uncut, widescreen, and in English language with
Japanese subtitles.
LIONMAN II: THE WITCHQUEEN
Directed by Michael Arslan in 1979 and starring Frank Morgan and Dee
Taylor
Some may be familiar with bad Turkish movies and some may not. Those
who are might have an idea of what to expect here, but if you are not
among them then consider yourself officially warned! Imagine a fantasy
setting with all the cinematic authenticity and atmosphere of Andy
Milligan's least ambitious project. Now, think of the worst 80's
semi-metal music video you can and figure the budget here must have
been about the same. We are getting warmer now! The plot concerns
Lionman, so named since he was raised by lions, who has had enough of
his kingly life and chooses to renounce his throne so he can return to
the forest; all his warrior buddies want to go with him too, though
it's never made clear why. Anyway, an evil witch with a magic ring and
a penchant for destructive alchemy arrives to marry the king of a
neighboring kingdom whose brother was killed by our hero, presumably
in the first film, for his dastardly deeds. When they learn Lionman is
planning to leave they hatch a diabolical scheme… This is it man. This
is our own Robot Monster. We offer it because it simply has to be seen
(And heard!) to be believed. If anybody wants it, here it is! Gore?
Nope. Nudity? Uh-uh. Laughs? For the right people, more than we can
count! We get a kick out of the fact that this was made in ‘Turkey'!
Bad-film of the highest order, there aren't many movies around quite
like this! We don't have the first Lionman film and, unless customer
interest dictates otherwise, we aren't going to look too hard to find
it either! Incidentally, the end credits promise further adventures in
Lionman: The Ring of the Magus! Mercifully, we have found no evidence
that this ever came to pass. Clear candidate for party movie of the
year and rare for a damn good reason, Lionman II: The Witchqueen is
presented to you in English language with Japanese subtitles.
And as always, enjoy the movies!
