Outboard DVD recorders (Gateway AR 230, Phillips DVDr 75) connect to PC?

Hi,
These two outboard DVD Recorders both have firewire (4 pin female) ports.
Is it possible to connect a PC directly to one of these? Then maybe capture
into Premiere or Pinnacle? Thanks. PS- I don't have one yet.

Thanks a million. I'm trying to figure out the fastest route (the shortest
processing time) rom DV AVI to MPEG 2. All computer-based DV AVI to MPEG/2
methods seem to require hours and hours of processing time.

I have a Pioneer DVR-310. You can input/output thru the Firewire cable.
What I have been doing, is editing on Studio 8, setting the output to
Tape, but I hook the Firewire cable to the DVD recorder rather than my
camcorder.

Hi,
Interesting. What happens to Chapters, titles, etc when you do that? Do you
send the edited material ot all at once, or do you send out, say, track one,
then track 2 etc, or do you break up the DVD into chapters etc in the
Pioneeer?.

When you output as tape, there are no titles or chapter stops. The
Pioneer
will add a title every time you stop the machine, and automatically add
chapters every 10 minutes. Think of it as recording straight off TV,
except
you have already edited out commericals, added transitions, etc.

This is what I would like to be able to do:
1. Capture a program into my computer, and do all the editing.
2. Record the DVD onto the Pioneer in real time.
3. Convert the .VOB files into MPG and import them back into Studio 8
4. Add "Real" menus and chapter stops exactly where I want them.
5. Let Studio 8 render the MGEG2 compliant file into a DVD.

Why go to all this trouble, you might ask? On my computer, if I let
Studio create the DVD from the captured video, a 45 minute show takes
6 hours to render. If I start with MPEG2 files, Studio will do the
rendering in about 20 minutes.

That's a huge time difference. I'm definitely going the outboard DVDr route.
Do you use Studio to convert the VOB files to Mpeg? Thanks.
