- Phillips 890r DVD recorder
- Posted by anetpayne@hotmail.com on January 23rd, 2006
I have owned a Phillips 890r DVD Recorder for about 2 years now. I am
curious if anyone has been able to break the copyright protection. I
have used the 890r DVD recorder to transfer all my old videos to DVD+R.
If the video has copyright protection, I have to place a Video
Enhancer in between the VCR and the Recorder. Although this does work,
the quality of the Video Footage is not as good as the original. I am
very interested if anyone has found a solution to this
problem!.........

Then you might not have a very good enhancer. From your
description it sounds like a de-hancer :-)
I have a Sima SCC-2.
I got mine at http://www.bhphotovideo.com $139.95 plus shipping.
They are a pro-oriented photo and video store and have been around
forever.
I got the SCC-2 not for macrovision - but because I can
lighten/darken, change color, change color intensity, sharpen,
etc., which is needed for some of the older videos I have.
This makes the video coming out better than that which is going
in.

Thanks Bill for the advice. Does the SCC-2 work in breaking the
macrovision? I purchased my Video Enhancer from Retrovision for
$169.95 to break the copyright protection. I'm copying my old surf
videos but the videos that do have Copyright Protection seem to copy
poorly. The footage of the waves (white water-the breaking wave) are
extremely white and tend to white out the surfer and most of the wave.
Thanks Anet

It is supposed to by I only have about 4 films with Macrovision on
them - as I didn't by many VHS video. I've heard many others say
it works fine on Macrovision - but all I can say it worked well on
the one Macrovision movie I transfered. Put a sample of one is
a bit small.
How do those look when played normally. It's easy to have
overexposed video. I used my unit to light up some underexposed
outdoor twilight video I shot back in 1980.
Does your Video Enhancer have video level controls?
