Pioneer 105 vs 106
Posted by Gabriel on September 3rd, 2003

I'm buying one of these burners as a bare drive for a new PC. The 105 is
$25.00 cheaper. I'm not concerned about +R compatibility since I have been
using -R media on my Sony exclusively and see no compelling reason to use
the +R format. I could still use it, if necessary, on my Sony. Is the 106 a
better engineered product that would justify an extra $25.00 or is that just
the premium you pay for having a dual format drive?

TIA / Gabriel

Actually, I wanted another 05 due to the more advanced firmware, but I
bought an OEM 106 and it works great.
Now if only they would do the fw hack to allow fast ripping

I use my sony dvd-rom for fast ripping, badly scratched dvd's with my P105,
would not want it to rip faster, slow ripping is the only way to go with old dvd's.
