Plextor 708-UF or?
Posted by JLa on November 12th, 2003

I'm looking for advice on buying a DVD burner for my laptop (WinXP, 850MHz
Pentium III; external USB port). The research I've done seems to suggest
that the Plextor 708-UF might be best bet since it is the fastest multi-
format burner. Is it dependable? What other models might I want to look
at, especially if I want to go cheaper? What is the most cost-efficient
format to burn in? If you take the time to answer, please consider as well
the cost of additional software if a burner comes bundled with crappy
stuff.

Mostly I am interested in 1) backing up my entire system and 2) in
consolidating my MP3 collection onto a small number of disks to free up
space on my hard drive. I am sort of interested in burning movies
eventually, perhaps to share with my friends, but this is not my first
priority.

Thanks in advance to anyone who choses to respond.

You are screwed, all you have is usb1, and can only burn at 900KB/s???
That's less than 1x!

with a usb2 pcmcia card:
get the external Pioneer and burn with dvd-r!
