- Problem with DVD-R playback
- Posted by Lord Retsudo on May 5th, 2004
I have made several DVD copies over the last month using DVD Decrypter
or DVD Shrink and Nero to burn them. I've found that some will play
fine on my standalone player (a Toshiba SD-330E), but some won't. All
are recorded on the same media, and the ones that won't play work fine
on Power DVD on my PC. The ones that don't play seem to load up OK on
the standalone but then seem to freeze as if the player can't read the
lead-in properly or something...
Any suggestions as to why this might be happening would be gratefully
received - it's most annoying as I've tried everything I can think of,
to no avail.
TIA, Tom

latest version may help.
When startup Nero, do you use the DVD-Video profile or do use UDF/ISO?

It's Nero 6 - I think that's the latest version?
Errr... I think I just use the default 'DVD-ROM (ISO)' option - should I be
using one of the ones you mentioned instead? I don't even know what
'UDF/ISO' is!
Thanks

The current version number for the Nero6 core components is 6.3.0.0.
I think the Retail box version is 6.0.0.0, and there have been several
updates since then.
To update Nero, you'll need to download the update packs from
http://www.nero.com/us/nero-up.php.
Since you've already got 6.0.0.0 installed, you simply install these
packs over top of it. It will automatically detect that you've got
Nero installed, and update only what it needs to.

When you want to make a DVD for your stand-alone player you have to select
DVD Video in the options, not DVD ISO. Open the red VIDEO TS folder and put
all the DVD files in there, Nero will automatically put the empty AUDIO TS
file on the disc

Apart from choosing the correct DVD-Video format, this problem can occur
because of the firmware for the particular DVD writer that you have. Check
for updates for it on the manufacturers site.
