- Prog to tell DVD-RW disc speed?
- Posted by George Rondy on October 4th, 2003
I got some Princo DVD-RWs that are supposed to be 4x, but I think they are
only 1x. Is there a program to tell what the max speed they will work at?
Also, I heard somewhere that there was a preferred type of DVD for data.
Anybody know if it was -RW or +RW?

I think Pioneer are the only company that make 4x DVD-RW

I have not yet come across 4x dvd-rw (or dvd+rw) media in the UK. Anyway
none of my drives support writing to 4x dvd-rw/+rw.

Hi
Try http://www.dvdinfopro.com/ this should tell you about media.
DVD-RW is only x1 or x2 speed, there isn't any x4 speed yet. +RW is x2.4
and x4.
For data use either, unless your writer supports Mt Rainier on +RW, but few
do so I suspect not.

I stand corrected. The -RW was 1x and the +RW was 2.4x. I d/l the
DVDInfoPro and found that either one can run at about 3.9x. Is there a way
to force 2x or 3x?
I have used a few progs and they only give me one choice of speed at 1x.

Hi
Are you sure the 3.9 wasn't reporting read speed?
Currently the maxium writing speed for DVD-RW is x2 speed, no forcing on
current hardware will make it go faster. You can not make x1 DVD-RW go
faster, it simply wouldn't work.
+RW maximum speed is x4 speed although x4 speed media is often hard to find,
maybe someone here will give a pointer where to get x4 speed media. Again
it is not possible to make x2.4 speed go faster.
