I am doing that myself. I tape using a VCR so I can edit out the ads.
Then I burn to DVD-R later using flexable recording mode.
At the end of each session they are showing 30 minutes highlights of
that session. So just join the three session highlights package or
record the 2 hour highlights package later tonight or tomorrow
morning.
The first session was a bit slow going. Langer and Katich not out at
lunch. Hayden out sweeping for 26. Opening stand of 50.
I use a Panasonic DMR-E30 DVD Recorder to go from VHS to DVD-R.

I taped the first session in SP mode for best quality and fits nicely onto a
DVD-R.
I am now taping sessions 2 and 3 in LP mode, picture quality drops a little
but I'll fit both sessions onto the one DVD-R.
If I hadve taped the final 2 sessions in FR mode, would it have come out any
better onto the DVD-R. I can't quite get my head around FR mode.

If you set it for 2 hours in FR or SP it will come out the same.
I tend to tape to the VCR as each session is not exactly 2 hours,
usually goes over a few minutes if the last over before the session
starts only 1 minute or less which means you may miss a few minutes of
play.
I tape to the VR so I can edit the ads out as it goes and then I am
left with a 90 minute session and record in FR mode so the picture
quality is a bit sharper not that it matters to much.

At the lunch break and 20 mins at the tea break.
Last night they showed the whole days play again and right now they
have a 2 hour highlights package of day 1 which maybe worth recording
as the first two sessions were a bit slow to watch. The last session
was the best session where 139 runs at a fast pace were scored and
worth watching again.

I was watching it live and after the lunch break they had a 30 min
highlights package. When the tea break came along they had another
highlights package and as it was only a 20 min break it was going to
be shorter.
That's life.
If you want more detailed times on when the highlights packages are on
then best look at the Foxtel web site or TV Guide which is not always
10% accurate.
The 2 hour highligyts package is on at present although about to end
as the second day session 1 starts soon.

This is incredible. Not only do people watch paint dry, they also record
paint drying so they can watch it dry again!

I think you need to calm down a bit.
Fox 2 (channel 12) has highlights (Analog) of 30 minutes after the
first session and 20 minutes in the tea break and I can't believe you
are getting so upset by this.
They replay the whole days play later and give a 2 hours highlight
package before each days play. Suggest you tape that. they also talk
about the days play after the cricket has ended. If you miss it then
they let you watch it over and over again. No doubt they will have
replays of this test match after its over and again and again like
theu always do. Before this test they showed 2 hour highlights of each
of the three tests between Australia and India in 2001 when Australia
last toured there.
Suggest you go to this web site to get the times of play.
http://www.foxtel.com.au
Click on the TV Guide and type in cricket over the next month and it
will show on the Analog and digital service when all the times for the
cricket are on. Bare in mind that the times can over lap as nothing is
perfect with these guides. Just there for a guide.

I KNOW WHAT TIMES THE HIGHLIGHTS ARE ON. i'm taping every ball of the test,
and have been doing so since 1981. my point is - which you have avoided - is
that you stated there was 30 mins highlights at the end of every session. my
question again is why would you say that when there clearly isnt? can you
answer that?

The highlights are 40 minutes which is the lunch break and 20 mins for
tea. So he was off by 10 minutes. Get over it.
I have heard of road rage oin the traffic. What we are seeing is
n-rage. See a shrink.
