Stick with the DVD+R. There really is very little between these two top
formats (DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW). Compatibility is approximately the same.
DVD-R/RW still has a very slight price advantage, but there is next to
nothing in it these days. Very soon the prices will be the same.

Even Pioneer is supporting DVD+R/RW. It will be very hard to find a drive
soon that doesn't support DVD+R/RW.

In article <CQsQa.164207$fC.1280883@news.easynews.com>,
BigMike@nomail.com says...
a stand-alone player (now) that wont play both.

The compatability problem centers on older (> 1 year)
players mostly.

Which is why its best to burn to dvd-r media. Unless you have bought
the latest dvd player and even that's no guanantee that the unit can
play dvd plus media. EG. Toshiba 1300SD can't play dvd plus media,
only dvd-r/-rw media.

My Sony DVD player is a couple of years old and I don't have any problems
with my
DVD+R media. DVD+R can be read by a lot more than 1% of the market, real
close to DVD-R I'm sure.

And because its a sony brand name. Sony two years ago had dvd plus
only burners. Sony has since moved to dual dvd burners due to poor
sales with the dvd plus only dvd burners.

You mis interpeted the post. dvd-r is compatible with 99% of dvd
players. dvd+r is compatible to about 70% of dvd player of the last
two years. Dvd players have been around for 10 years.
dvd-r first came out 6 years ago. dvd+r media first came out 2 years
ago if that.

Go read the dvd help web site. Documented on vcd help as well.

Plus we do a fair bit of authoring so know what works with what
drives. Still don't mind our competitors using the silly plus format
because we pick up their customers in the end. Who's going to go back
to a dvd authoring business that onl;y does dvd plus authoring which
doesn't work in most drives.

Then there are the shows in Singapore and Europe on dvd authoring and
the talk in each of these shows is on dvd-r. Nothing is ever mentioned
on dvd+r media.

Its a fact of life that dvd-r first came out in 1997. dvd+rw came out
a year before dvd+r. Manufactures have to make their equipment
compatible with what is out at the moment. Which is why when blu ray
gets released no current dvd players going right back to when they
first came out 10 years ago will be able to read a blue ray disc.

5 years from now blu ray maybe common in most dvd players from when
they get released to that point but not currently to the last 10
years. The same applies to dvd-r and dvd+r which came 4 years later.
If dvd+r was out first then they would have dominated but that didn't
happen because pioneer were the first to release a dvd-r burner way
back in 1997.

Do the research before mouthing off in future.

Where did you get that 'dvd+r is compatiable with %70 of dvd players in the
last 2 years' bullshit? What a load of crap. If you're only looking at
players made in the last two years, both DVD-R and DVD+R will play without
error on the majority (approx 90 - 95%).
