- TDK discs
- Posted by kalicat3 on January 18th, 2005
Hi I just opened a 25pk. of TDK's DVD-R. Using Nero info tool they are
identified as TTG03 Brand. The disc say 4x but will only burn at 2x. I
haven't coastered any yet but DVD Xcopy wouldn't burn with them. I have had
no problems with TDK +R's which are Ricoh. Anyway just wondering if these
TTG03's are junk?
Thanks. Paul O'Neill

They have bought themselves fake tdk media.
Genuine tdk media has tdk somewhere on top of the disc.
Ink jet media has tdk on the hub and branded has it on top of the
disc.
Fake tdk is less than half the price of genuine tdk media.
Take the media back and get genuine tdk which is what you paid for.

yeah they do say tdk, and i bought them from Dick Smith, i dont think they
are fake, tdk is branded on them, they arent white top printable at all.
they are the normal blur tdk discs, in packs of 1, 5, 10, 25 or 50.

I meant to say in the original post they are TTG01.
They are labeled as TDK on the disc. Bought from Costco

After researching a bit I guess they are made by TDK.

That site has the manufacter id as the maker which is incorrect.
Imation buys their media from Ritek Corp in Taiwan.
Tdk was buying her media from Ritek and was Sony.
Sony and Tdk now buy their media from Taiyo Yuden.
Riteks own brand is Ridata.
Ritek poor made discs which should be destroyed are sold as Arita.
MCC stands for Mitsibishi Chemical Corp and they make their media for
Verbatim datalife plus brand as well as their own brand.
The brands are often chopping and changing from month to month.
Very hard to keep track on all the makers of media and to what they
are moving to.
Tdk and Sony both had customer complaints when ritek had a good disc
but went to a cheaper disc and the quality went down hill. Now they
buy from Taiyo Yuden.
Cheap made discs are a sign of the times. No one wants to pay twice as
much so they make the cheap shit.
Only MCC and TY and the odd other are making a half decent disc.
Look at the once good princo. Gone from great to pathetic over the
last couple of years. Ritek heading in the same direction.

Probably your recorder. My Sony 500a burns all +R at 4x but is a bit more
fussy with -R and sometimes will only burn at x2

This is weird - I have a spindle of blue TDKs that I bought from DSE - they are
branded TDK on the outer edge, and show as TTGO2
David - wondering why the differences in ID for what should be the same product

could be firmware. My drive is a 4x and the new media is 1x-8x and could not
accuratly read the media to determine the speed and defaulted to 2.4x
updating the firmware solved my problem
