Howdy,

I was wondering if any of the DVD copying/cloning programs out there — under $100 -
or- FREE (shareware or otherwise) — are _dual-purpose_ programs . . . meaning, do any
of them do BOTH formats, CD-rewriteable & DVD?

I have a rewriteable CD burner that came with some crummy Roxio software (yes, I've
read the numerous rants) but I'd like to get something that could do BOTH
technologies because I'll be getting a writeable DVD drive soon. My interests are
fairly typical: I'd like to re-mix some of my music CDs into custom music CD's
(never worked with mp3's and really only want to remix my purchased CD's) + I'll have
A LOT of data backup (graphics files mostly) + I want to back up my DVD movies so the
purchased ones are in my fire safe at all times and the copies, the ones actually
viewed. I hope that defines my needs.

Or is this really stretching it? Should I just content myself with a solid CD-
writing program and wait to get a DVD program "tailor made" for my DVD drive?

I'm asking that last question because the (original Adaptec) Roxio software that came
with my CD-RW drive was nothing to write home about, and I'm less than certain that
bundled software has any advantage over 3rd party programs.

I have Roxio EZ CDDVD Creator and it's been working fine for me both
CD's and DVD's with my Plextor 708A. Actually, it came with the
Plextor 708A.

Practically I do most CD audio burning from MusicMatch jukebox (it's
just easier and works fine), but I don't use anything but the Roxio
program to burn my DVD's and I haven't had a problem since I figured
out the proper directory/file structure for a video DVD (i.e. you need
VIDEO_TS directory that has all your goodies in it and a blank
AUDIO_TS directory. I use DVD Shrink to rip DVD's to my hard drive
when I'm backing up a movie DVD.
