- Toast 6 Won't
- Posted by One4All on March 1st, 2007
I'm trying to burn a DVD in PAL with Toast 6. When I click Record, I
get a window that says NTSC will be used, even tho I've chosen the PAL
radio button. What gives? Can I do anything to correct this? BTW, the
Roxio discussion group re: this is not helpful. I have a Mac PPC G5,
running Mac OS 10.3.9.

Are there no Apple NG?

Yes, there are, but I saw this more specifically as a Toast/DVD issue.
I finally got good advice from the Roxio discussion group. I was too
impatient. I learned that Toast 6 could not convert material recorded
in NTSC to PAL, that if I wanted to burn in PAL, the original file had
to be recorded in PAL. I learned Toast 7 can transcode from NTSC to
PAL & vice-versa. So, I'm waiting for my copy of Toast 7 to arrive.
I just thought this NG might have someone with experience with Mac's,
Toast, and burning DVD's to help me.

Well, the group name relates to video recording on DVD, so I'd say
posting here was worth a try.
And now I've learned something useful from you just by reading the
thread.

Please give a short feedback on your results when you have it running.
It is not easy to get good motion after converting the frame rate.

Thanks for the heads-up re: a possible motion problem. The material
I'm working with is a series of still photos that I've put into a
slideshow. However, my video editor (iMovie 4) provided a Ken Burns
effect feature, which I used for some photos.
Received Toast 7 today, but it calls for Quicktime 7 & I have QT 6,
which I need to keep for several reasons. Now I need to find out how/
if I can keep two versions of QT on my HD. For that, I'm off to an
Apple discussion group. Will keep you posted re: results of
transcoding NTSC to PAL.

Installed Toast 7 with advice from Apple discussions group, & yes, I
can have 2 versions of Quicktime on my HD. Burned a DVD with Toast 7,
converting from NTSC to PAL. Played it on my Mac & no problems.
Dissolves & Ken Burns effects went smoothly. Had some audio issues on
last half of program, but at this point, nothing to be done. I don't
think they're serious, but my German friend may advise me otherwise.
Then, I go back to square 1.
