Two online stores compared for media
Posted by bahumbug on December 2nd, 2004

A cautionary tale:

Went to order some dvd media last month. Usually buy from NewEgg but
they were out of stock.

Did a search, found a store that had the same stuff for only about $5
more so I placed an order with them. A week later, nothing arrived.

I noticed the product was back in stock at NewEgg. I placed another
order as you can always use some more good blank media. I placed the
order with NewEgg the night before Thanksgiving. I got the NewEgg
shipment the monday after Thanksgiving.

The other guys ? They eventually sent me an email saying it's being
shipped in a day or two. Guess who was out of stock but didn't
indicate it to their online customers.

Still waiting on them.

I normally do order from Newegg but I ordered from Supermediastore.com this
morning.

200 Ritek 8x hub printable $96 shipped. Same thing is $116 at Newegg. Right
now I can afford to wait a week for them to arrive for the $20 savings but
if I couldn't then it would be Newegg all the way. You can't beat their
service and speed.

There are ratings available at ResellerRatings.com
They survey a large number of vendors. They make it easy to select reputable
vendors, and reject the (many) crooks/thieves/losers.

Well, they finally delivered, and although I wasn't crazy about their
packaging, I wouldn't call them crooks. I've just been spoiled by
better service.
