- unable to read dvdr
- Posted by whoami on June 28th, 2003
I hope somebody can answer a (probably) very simple problem I have.
I've just installed an old DVS DVD-ROM DSR-600H Drive in my second PC, it
is supposed to support DVD-R but it will not read them at all.
My other DVD-ROM (Tosh & Pioneer) Drives in my main PC have no problems with
the discs I am trying, this drive in this PC won't read them at all.
Is my PC missing something obvious like a driver or udf reader etc...I
really haven't a clue and would appreciate some advice.
Hope you can help,
Thankyou

It obviously does not support the DVD-R media you are using

I would have at first said that but I have never found a brand of media that
a PC Drive had not supported (for playback). I suppose there is always a
first for me, thanks for your reply.

Yes I agree with Bruce, it is a hardware issue. In the past I have made
sure when buying a DVD-ROM that it is compatible with all existing media,
but as fate would have it, I obviously forgot about the DVD+R/RW format,
those disc's are not reconized by the DVD-ROM's I bought so in my third
system, I got me a Sony DDU1621. This drive will read anything but a
DVD-RAM, and I don't reconize those myself, so I don't expect my system to
either. <just my 2¢ worth>
