What software will handle DVD-RAM ? My default
burning program ( Nero - v6.6.0.1 ) does not appear
to be fully compatible with this [ dvd-ram ] format.

What problem are you having? I have none.

Nero fails to burn any type of data to the DVD-RAM disk.....
Even erasing the disk in Nero returns an "Unspecified
target error - HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4160B\H0 T0"
The disk records fine in a standalone DVD recorder.

It's not actually the main Nero Burning ROM program. It's InCD,
another part of the Nero suite that handles DVD-RAM. It's what the
latest drives from LG have been using as a DVD-RAM driver.

Are you sure?
I have a LG 4120 (OEM), so I did not receive any software, manual etc. But I
use the Panasonic (I think) dvd-ram formatter.

Use any program you like. Use windows explorer and drop the files over
assuming the disc is formatted to udf or fat32.

But Windows can only natively format the dvd-ram disc as FAT32, AFAIK.

If they have a dvd burner capable of burning to dvd-ram then they will
also have a special driver that can format to fat32 or do udf.

That is likely only to apply to the Retail version. My LG 4120 is OEM, so no
udf formatter came with it.

So what's the problem with FAT32?

Windows XP supports dvd-ram. It won't format it in UDF.

Pretty sure. Until LG rearranged the support site, there used to be a
listing for "DVD-RAM driver" where they said you should use that as
your DVD-RAM driver. They did use the Panasonic DVD-RAM driver in the
past, so that would probably work too.
Here's the quote (luckily I quoted it before, and it was archived on
cdfreaks):
"The drag-and-drop DVD-RAM drivers that come with LG drives are
licensed from other companies and can't be posted on this site, but
they are located on the CD that came with the unit.
Starting with the model GSA-4120B, Nero InCD is included with the unit
as a DVD-RAM driver. InCD version 4.1 (and newer) has built-in support
for DVD-RAM.
For older models, the DVD-RAM drivers can be found on the disc under a
folder named 'Driver' or 'RAMDrv'. Or, you can use Nero InCD version
4.1 or newer. Nero InCD is part of Nero's CD/DVD software suite, a
trial version can be downloaded from www.nero.com. "
I can't find the link now, but if you want, you can confirm this with
LG.

It is definitely supported via Nero INCD now. Before, the support was
via B's DVD RAM Driver. Both will let you format UDF.

Thanks for the info.
Having tried InCD a few years ago and finding it very buggy, I have not used
it since. Has it improved? Does it have any advantages over the "LG" dvd-ram
formatter?

I did not know that. Thanks for pointing it out.
I am using B's dvd-ram driver with my LG 4120.

Not in the UK. If it is described as "OEM", you get nothing except the
drive.
