- why can't i watch my recorded dvds on my computer?
- Posted by galdcourse2@yahoo.es on February 6th, 2006
i seem to be having a problem viewing dvds which I have burned using a
standalone dvd recorder (connected to the television) on my pc. What
makes matters worse is that the pc will recognaise some of them but not
them all.
anyone any ideas as to why?
cheers

If you haven't "finalized" or "closed' the disc on the DVD recorder,
most other devices won't have any idea what to do with it. Could that
be the issue?

Not finalising the disk is the most likely reason. It is annoying if the
recording is on a DVD-RW, which you did not want to finalise. However, I
believe there may be a finalise/unfinalise option on my recorder menus - I
haven't tried it yet.

Agreed, but unfortunately it may be the only solution with this medium.
It's my understanding that DVD+RW doesn't have this limitation, so it
might be worth trying one of those discs if your recorder supports it.

I'm sure that ther dvds have been finished. the problem is that some of
them work and some of them choose not to. could it have something to do
with the fact that i might have recorded too many programmes on the
dvds that don't work and the computer can't read the root menu?
thanks anyway

As far as I know this shouldn't be relevant.
See if you can se the files on the problem DVDs with your computer.
This will give a clue where the problem is.

Fitting a new DVD drive might help.
