- Won't burn at the max of 16x
- Posted by Dan P. on January 19th, 2005
When using Verbatim 16x DVD+R media, I usually maintain a burning speed of
at most 10-11x. Then towards the end of the burn, it settles down to 8x.
Is there any way to get it to burn at the max 16x during the burn? It's
really not that big of a deal. The burns take about 6 minutes, so it's
pretty fast, but still if I could squeeze out a few extra minutes, that
would be great!
I've verified that the hard drive is running in DMA mode (Ultra DMA Mode 5).
And the burn speed in DVD Decrypter is set to "Max".
My computer specs are as follows:
Athlon XP 2400+ Mobile processor
512 MB of RAM
Sony DRX-710UL external DVD writer (connected via USB 2.0)
40 GB HD (I have about 11 GB free when I do the burn from an ISO image on
the hard drive)

Put the drive in a internal bay in the pc and watch the speed increase

Kinda hard when I have a laptop (hence the "mobile" processor I mentioned)
and the fact that it's an external drive.
Sorry, my money tree doesn't start to blossom until May or June. Can't
afford a brand new PC just to get 5x more speed on my DVD writes.
