- 64 bit/how to tell
- Posted by Elmo Watson on June 15th, 2008
I bought a new logic board with an Intel Core 2 quad 6600 processor
Is there a way to tell, in the device mgr, whether or not it's 64 bit ?
Are all Intel Core2 quads 64 bit?

The CPUs themselves, yes. However, that doesn't automatically mean that
just because a computer has a Q6600, it's 64-bit ready.

How can I tell then?
It's an ECS G31T-M logic board with a 1333 FSB, if that helps

There are at least some 64-bit drivers (I didn't look at all components)

I'd probably go for it.

What exactly are you asking? Your system, perhaps minus
some hardware that may or may not have 64 bit drivers
available, can run a 64bit operating system, but that
doesn't necessarily mean the operating system you ar
running IS 64 bit instead of the more popular 32bit version
of (windows XP or Vista or Server or ??).
In other words:
1) Yes it's 64 bit capable.
2) It all depends on what software you install. If you
just reused a std Windows XP that is making it run in 32bit
mode.

Yes, all Intel Core 2 Quad CPU's are 64 bit.
