Can someone tell me if the BIOS will automatically detect and set the CPU
speed, or if this needs to be done manually.

Thanks
Tom

Just getting into the BIOS implies that your CPU is already working ...

As an example on my ASUS A7V8X-MX motherboard and a AMD 2500+ I had to set
the bus clock (via dip switches) to 1666MHz and not the default of 100MHz
and yes it did work when set to the lower speed. I thought it was a bit
strange that I only had a 1.1GHz processor.

I think as someone else said you need to read the manual.

One to many 6's I think :-). That'll teach me to post early in the morning.

The newer ones are automatic. Older systems require setting jumpers.
