BIOS Update
Posted by bethanie.stadtmiller@bankarea.com on October 24th, 2005

Dell sent me a link to update my bios and now some of my apps are jacked.

Mainly my internet is really slow now. Comcast cable modem, D-Link wireless router. Do I need to reinstall the drivers or something?

Also my copy of Orion Platinum (music sequencer/VST host) needed me to re-input the serials, I lost my copy of Steinberg Noise Reduction. And Samplitude won't monitor what I'm recording.

What's the word?

Ive never heard of a bios update forcing people to reenter serial
numbers. Sometimes a new bios if its a beta can be unstable and maybe
one or two features may suddenly not work that well but if its not a
beta usually there isnt such a huge effect especially since I doubt
DELL would send one to you unless its was fairly well tested. Most
makers will say use it at your own risk if its new and even say dont
flash unless theres something wrong with your system as you could have
a badflash and have a dead system on some boards though some have
recovery features nowadays.

Anything is possible but I really doubt thats what affected all that.
If its true you should be able to flash back to the old bios version
and everything should be fine again.

I wonder if the link was to a non-Dell site ?

I cannot imagine Dell inviting people to upgrade their BIOS
and kill the motherboard - that is inviting a rash of
tech support phone calls. Maybe the executable file you
downloaded is a Trojan ?

How about posting the URL of the link to the file ?
