- Can bad CD disc physically cause DVD player to stop functioning???
- Posted by DT on May 1st, 2004
A friend of mine swears that when he put in a CD disc that was bad into his
DVD player, it ruined the player when it comes to playing any CD disc after
the bad one was put in. He says he can still play DVD discs but not CD
discs. How in the world can putting in a bad CD (scratched, chipped or
whatever physically wrong) effect the player unit for CD's only? He thinks
that when the laser eye was trying to read the bad disc it caused the eye to
bounce the light around and onto itself or something thus causing all CD
discs to be unreadable on the player. Yet DVD discs still function.
So what is the real story on this? Can a DVD player actually get effected by
a bad disc in a physical way? How is this possible???

higher resolution laser to read them so we know that the laser isn't
damaged. However I have seen discs gouge the lens in CD/DVD players
butafter that they are *COMPLETELY* unusable.

I suggest he cleans his cd's if they won't play. Player must be fine if
DVD's are ok.

Yes this can happen, a player can be damaged so it will play DVD's
but not CD's.
Cleaning you CD's won't help.

Boy your answers are short. Not much info to go on. How about some closure
to your thoughts. Did you fix it, Can it be fixed? What made the head become
restricted? Are you saying the head can move in one area only that allows
for DVD play only? Give some details. Don't be shy..............

I went to these sites. But what am I looking for? I did searches etc.
Is there a specific page you know that talks about this issue?
I'd love to get the education, but there's no one teaching it.
