Can I swap a DVD player for a CD burner in my notebook? My notebook
has a DVD /CD player only in it. It has an adapter on the back of the
drive. Can I replace it with a CD-RW burner or are burner and players
have different configured plugs at the back for the adapter to plug
into?

Yes it's possible, some use rarer mounting but in general
they're standard except the front faceplate may not be
compatible. The best odds would be getting one from same
drive manufacturer around same era/models, or the notebook
OEM.

Yes. Some are easier to change than others. Something under 10 seconds
for a dell Latitude (and you can even hot swap them). To over 20
minutes for the various models that require half-dismantling the unit.
Order one from the manufacturer of your laptop, unless you enjoy
swapping faceplates, rails, and/or tailpieces.
