Can't WOL from remote pc anymore
Posted by Drone on February 22nd, 2005

Hi all

I have a small network at home, containing 2 computers. One of them is on
24/7 because it receives data from a weather station all day. The other one
is a regular desktop pc for normal use.
When i am at work, i sometimes switch on this desktop pc via Wake-on-LAN. I
use realVNC to connect to the weatherstation pc and from there is use a
program called 'poweroff v3.0.1.3' to send a magic packet. This method
always worked like a charm, because is always used to shut down the desktop
pc. So, the desktop woke up from the 'shutdown' status.
Lately, however, i have been experimenting with the 'standby' mode (Suspend
to RAM - S3). This works great in my oppinion, i just press one button on
my keyboard and within seconds my pc is standby. I can wake it up in
seconds with a simple mouse double-click. However, i can't wake the desktop
pc from this 'standby' status anymore.
When i shutdown the pc i can WOL it without problems, but when in standby
it simply won't wake.

Can anyone help me to get this function working?

PS: I have tried to tick the function in the hardware settings of the
desktop pc's network card to 'allow this device to wake the computer' This
didn't change anything, it still didn't wake.

If I had to guess, I'd say a BIOS setting problem or a BIOS upgrade is
needed, if available.
