- how do I find out the manufacturer of my CDRW drive?
- Posted by Elwood on July 20th, 2003
I'm trying to find out if there are updated drivers available, as I seem to
get a lot of fixation errors when burning (using WinXP Home, and Nero 5.5,
with Imation discs).
I'm wondering if there is any freeware/shareware out there that will show me
the brand/maker of my installed CDR and CDRW drives?
Any help is appreciated,
C

Device Manager doesn't show a brand name in the CD/DVD-ROM device
listing? I have a Lite-On CD-RW and a Toshiba DVD-ROM and both are
listed in Device Manager with the manufacturer's name in the device
listings for them.

No, all I have showing in Device Mgr is the generic Windows drivers,
and it's just labelled "CD Writer"

So far I haven't opened the case (laziness!), 'cause I've got to move
a LOT of stuff out of the way from the desk to get to it. The PC have
plenty of air space behind it, but it's not easy to get to. That's one
reason I was looking for a software solution!
