- Please recommend a hard drive for 1999 iMac (slot loading)
- Posted by code_wrong on September 8th, 2004
Hi,
I need a replacement hard drive for a 1999 iMac (slot loading) 350MHz.
40GB will be sufficient since it currently has 6GB.
Will any UDMA drive do the job?
Someone in the groups already recommend a
40 GB EIDE Ultra/ATA-100 5400 RPM Western Digital drive
but they don't make that model any more .... at least I can't find it
for sale at dabs.com or amazon ..
TIA

I installed a SeaGate Barracuda IV (I think that's what it was called)
in my iMac DV (slot loading, 400 MHz) and absolutely love it. My
original drive was fine, but it was so incredibly noisy that it gave me
a headache (a loud whine). The Barracuda was widely touted as being the
quietest internal hd on the market. Though I haven't tested them all, I
would have to agree: it was silent.
