Problem with SATA 300 Seagate Drives....!
Posted by Starz_Kid on August 18th, 2006

Hello Group, I'm having some problems with Win XP Pro (with all the
updates) and some Seagate SATA 300 - 7200.10 Drives.

Problem is getting Win XP to recognize the drives...! In Drive Management,
Win XP sees the drives as 'foreign' drives I import them but for the life
of me, I can't get Windows Explorer to see the drives.
Other file management software (Power Desk Pro) also does NOT see the
drives.

I'm stumped...!

Note that Seagate & WD SATA 150 drives work A.O.K., It's just the SATA 300
Drives.
Note: the SATA 300 drives are pinned as sata 150.

Drives are in Coolmax SATA drive enclosures...!

I've tried other SATA drive enclosures... but the problem persists..!

I've tried the Coolmax SATA enclosures using firewire and USB2 ... problem
persists..!

Am I missing SATA 300 Drivers ? ? ?

Any advice appreciated...!

I'm not an expert... but have the drives been formatted to the NTFS file
system yet?

Are the drives jumpered for 1.5Gb/sec operation when you place
them in the enclosure ?

Do the drives work when plugged directly to your motherboard ?
Why not prep the drives when connected to the motherboard, and
then move them back to the enclosure and try again. If the
drives won't work with the motherboard, you have eliminated
the enclosure as the source of the problem.

Hello Paul, Yes, the drives are jumpered for 1.5GB/sec. and I'll try
re-formatting as you state.
I'll post the results here.
