Samsung SATA drives
Posted by Personic on February 6th, 2005

Hi all, first PC specs:-
CPU Athlon 64 3400+
MB DFI NF3 250GB
MEM 1 Gig generic
VID Nvidia 6800GT
HD 1 x 120 Gig (PATA) IBM deskstar + 2 x
80 Gig (SATA) Samsung spinpoints
PSU 550W Qtec
OS Win XP sp2
Now the problem. PC ran without issue for months after being built, with the
IBM drive as a boot drive, and the Samsungs as a raid. Then one day the PC
froze on boot at the "detecting raid" stage.
Tried updating Nforce drivers and BIOS no change. Then gave up on raid and
tried to use the drives alone as D: and E:. Now the problem is I cannot
format the drives in windows, Dos or Fdisk as NTFS, though partition magic
formated one of them as FAT32. The one that is working as a FAT32 drive is
working fine but wont let me convert to NTFS? The other drive wont format at
all. Both drives are detected fine in Disk management in windows and are
declared healthy ?
Any advice/thoughts ?? Thanks in advance
Personic
