- Is SATA II backwards compat with SATA?

Basically my question: is SATA II backwards compat with SATA?
Can I plug an SATA II hard drive into a motherboard that only supports SATA?
I have one SATA drive I use a Kingwin removable rack with (the kind that
fits in the 5.25" bay), and was wondering should my next hard drive be SATA
II and are the connections the same? Also they are saying SATA II's new
feature is that it's hot swappable, but my SATA is hot swappable too... so I
thought. What's the story with all this?
Any links you can provide also would be helpful...

No problems: I've just added a pair of SATA II Samsungs to my SATA I system.
