- Upgrade for Slot 1and Slocket
- Posted by YanquiDawg on April 2nd, 2004
A friend wants to upgrade his P3 500 machine. It's an intel BX 440 mobo and I
have an MSI 6905 V.2 Slocket. Anyone know if the FCPGA2(tualatin) Celeron
1.0ghz(256 L2) will work with this?I know it's old stuff,but it's not a gaming
machine.Thanks

I don't think it will, or rather, there's two or three pins that need
isolated and one set connected... much easier on a slotket than pulling
out a board but if you had a Coppermine CPU to plug into the slotket
first, to confirm that his bios is working for a Coppermine, that might
help... some intel boards needed specific bios revisions to run coppermine
or Tualatin, not the last released but a few versions before that, before
they enabled the "halt on error" feature... I don't recall the specifics.
Then again I'm assuming you meant Intel board, not just intel chipset...
none of the other manufacturer's boards had that issue AFAIK.
There should be some tips and hints if not the exact mod needed for that
revision of 6905, here:
