- usb 2.0 compatibility

I am currently looking into getting a digital camera. I have noticed
that the one I want has usb 2.0. My system has either 1.0 or 1.1.
I'm not sure but I do know it is not 2.0.
My question is, would I be able to connect the camera to the 1.x usb
port to upload the pictures? Is there a cable that will fit both
connections or would I have to upgrade to a usb 2.0 motherboard?

You would need to add a USB 2.0 PCI card to your computer. You can NOT use
a USB 2.0 camera with a USB 1.1 motherboard.

Cameras supporting USB are often (if not always) backwards
compatible. The included cable can just be plugged in and
you're done, except for installing a driver if the OS
doesn't natively support, recongnize the cam enough to
read/write to it.

USB 2.0 devices of this type must be backwards compatible with earlier USB
designs, so it will work fine, albeit perhaps slower on transferring data to
the PC (especially if you're using the camera to transfer video to your
machine). As to whether your system currently has USB 1.0 or 1.1, they're
