- USB Printer to Parallel Port on PC
- Posted by Randall R. Zimmerman on October 22nd, 2003
I have a customer that has an older system without USB ports and
he purchased a new printer that's specifically USB. The question is
do they make a cable/converter from USB Type B-Male to Parallel - DB25 male
(not Centronics).
I am aware that they make a USB A-Male to 36pin Centronics, but that's
not what I need.
Thanks in Advance.

Why not get a PCI card with USB ports on it?
The cables/converters you mentioned are, in my experience,
for use with a parallel printer on a USB port not what you need.

They don't make such an animal. They do make add in USB cards, and they
also have USB PCMCIA cards for laptops. Other alternative is return the
printer and get one compatible with his system. How old and fast is it and
what OS? If it is windows 95 unlikely a usb printer will work. Also, many
low end USB printers require a 200mmx processor minimum.
