OK, I may have done something completely wrong here, but was trying to set
up conversion of some old VHS tapes to DVD


I installed the latest NVIDIA drivers for my Galaxy GeForce 6600GT

I installed the latest WDM drivers as someone said I would need them - no
idea what they're for


After the 2nd reboot (WDM install), I got some kind of error message like
this


This device cannot start. (Code 10)


Now in my device manager I have

nVidia WDM A/V Crossbar (no idea what it is, but that came as part of this
new install)
nVidia WDM Video Capture (universal)

the video capture has the yellow exclamation point.


I checked the manual for my card, and it does seem to support video feeds as
there's a cable with an S-VHS at one end and then a big adapter on the other
end with the other end S-VHS plus the red/yellow/white connectors etc



Am just wondering if I am doing something completely wrong here - no
experience at all with vidoe capture

Here is a MSI NX6600GT-VTD128. It has a 9 pin DIN connector (3-4-2 pins).
I think the 9 pin connector means VIVO. Other counts of pins on the
DIN connector, mean it might be TV-OUT only.

The MSI manual mentions installing the VGA driver and then the
WDM capture driver. DirectX 9 is also to be installed, and maybe
you could do that first, if you haven't already. So, the order
I'd do the drivers:

1) Removed old video card drivers, before replacing the card ?
Could be messy if another Nvidia card was already in there.
I've made this mistake more than a few times.

2) Installed the motherboard chipset drivers ? Necessary to
get acceleration features working.

3) DirectX 9.0c

Do you have the latest DirectX installed (IIRC, ver 9c) ?

When you run the WDM installer, it should dump the files
somewhere like "C:\NVIDIA\WDM\4.13-VIVO"

On each device in Device Mgr with that exclamation mark, go
into the properties and try adding (upgrading) driver by
browsing to that folder... it if lists several devices,
remember the name of the one you're browsing for, like the
Crossbar, and choose the corresponding entry.

When you've done all of them, reboot.



link to a good picture of the bracketed ports on your card,
or the manufacturer spec page... newegg might have good pics
if they carry that card.

I have exactly the same with my MSI 6600gt. I was able to use it by
selecting update driver in device manager, which would install drivers and
run, but I had to do this on every restart. I didn't find a decent solution
but had a cheap tv capture card that worked just as well so put that back in
my machine instead. The next thing I would have done would be getting latest
drivers off MSI's website, but decided to just not bother and uninstalled
the WDM drivers.
