I ran into this video (URL below) of a kid who says he extended a
regular USB webcam, using cat5. Would this actually work? I heard there
would be power degredation and without external power, USB can only go
16 feet.

There are others out there but this is the best solution I've seen. Oh,
and they'll sell you a version that comes with (IIRC) a 150ft cat-5
cable in case you don't want to muck about with punching down the RJ-45
connectors yourself.

It is the data response that is effected more than the power from the
length of a USB extension. If the device is able work without any loss,
it should work no matter what the length is.
