Forged headers - can I make sure?
Posted by Marnok.com on October 12th, 2006

Hi

All of a sudden, I am getting multiple emails telling me a message I never
sent has been rejected for being spam.

I am pretty certain there's nothing nasty running on my machine actually
sending them, and the bounced headers show a different IP address. Is this
enough to be sure that my machine isn't the one doing the sending? Or could
the IP addres be faked to mask some nasty software sending emails without my
knowledge?

Also, is there any way to deal with the problem of someone using variants on
my domain in their headers? I suspect not.

Thanks for any help.

Your email address was harvested from someone elses addressbook and it is being used as the
sending address. It is that simple assuming you truly don't have a spamBOT or Trojan Proxy.
