New to IT security
Posted by TAlbano on October 21st, 2004

I Recently have been hired as a IT Security Specialist. I come from a
strong background of Desktop Support.

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to any books or reference
material that might help me on my way?

Thank you in advance

Depends on exactly what you are trying to secure, and what your job
entails..

The company that I am going to be working for has a very new security
department. It will entail policy creation, and enforcement.

So there will be a very broad spectrum of items that my new position will
cover.

How did you qualify as an IT security specailist if you are asking for
such basic information? Was there no job description or selection
criteria?

One would also reasonably expect someone with a "strong background in
desktop support" to know how to do even the barest of research to find
such information...

Where did you get that job? No experience and computer security knowledge
required?

You may find CompTIA Security+ as a guide for your direction.
