? about fresh install of Windows XP

My notebook is now about 1 year old and I'm having problems with like the
DVD burner drive not working correctly, or not playing DVD's etc, and a few
other issues. It was suggested wipe my drive and do a clean install and
start all over again with a fresh OS. My question is once, reformat, and
then reload Windows XP, is it ok to let windows update find and install all
the software and drivers for all my hardware or do I reallly need to go to
the notebooks company's website and download all the software and the
drivers for my hardware? Wouldn't it be the same stuff, no matter where I
got it from? I hate having to go to the company's website, download and
install everything, only to then go to windows update to download other
stuff that I need that comes from Microsoft, only to have windows update
tell me that they have new drivers or softwar for hardware on my computer
that I have already installed from the company's website.

Any info I would appreciate it. Thanks!

think perhaps MS tend to use general purpose drivers. So if you can, go for
a companys` own rather than MS.
Why don`t you Rt click My Computer\Manage\Event Viewer and check through the
logs for any errors that might exist there. You could do a system `cleanup`
rather than a complete reinstall.
best wishes..OJ
