Does anyone know the right sound card driver for a Via KT600 mother
board? Manual says the audio chipset is Ac97 VT1612A. Downloaded
audioen300.zip from drivers.com. When I try to install it it says Via
chipset not present. In device manager I see PCI multi media audio
device in "other devices" and it has the yellow splat on it. It is
using IRQ 10. Under "Sound, video and game controllers i see "MS
windows compatible sound system", and it is set to IRQ 7, also with
the yellow splat. If i run PC Wizard 2004, click on the recources tab
and then select IRQ's, it shows the following:

00 : System timer
01 : Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural Keyboard
02 : Programmable interrupt controller
03 : Inutilisée
04 : Inutilisée
05 : Inutilisée
06 : Standard Floppy Disk Controller
07 : MS Windows Sound System Compatible
08 : System CMOS/real time clock
09 : IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
09 : 3D Blaster Banshee PCI/AGP
10 : IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
10 : PCI Multimedia Audio Device
11 : IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
11 : SiS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller
11 : SiS 7001 PCI to USB Open Host Controller
11 : Best Data PCI Modem Enumerator
12 : PS/2 Compatible Mouse Port
13 : Numeric data processor
14 : SiS 5513 Dual PCI IDE Controller
14 : Primary IDE controller (dual fifo)
15 : SiS 5513 Dual PCI IDE Controller
15 : Secondary IDE controller (dual fifo)

Thanks for any help anyone can give, this is driving me nuts as I have
no idea what the devices in IRQ 3, 4 and 5 are.

Avoid AC97 at all costs, if possible.
If you really want to use AC97, make sure it is turned on in BIOS, and that you
have installed the software that came with the motherboard.

Captain America came up with this:

IRQ3=serial port 2
IRQ4=serial port 1
IRQ5=printerport

KT600 is the chipset on the motherboard. What make/model is the
motherboard? The manufacturer should have the audio driver on it's web
site.

Capt,

Your manual may claim this is a VIA KT600 motherboard, however your IRQ
list would indicate a SIS chipset based system of some sort.

Try running another information program such as Sandra or AIDA32 to pin
down the actual components of your system.

Best of luck,

Boot into Safe Mode and remove EVERYTHING
to do with sound controllers, from Device Manager.

Next, visit:
http://www.via.com.tw/en/multimedia/vt1612a.jsp

I can't get this page to display - I can ping it.
It's the VIA drivers page:

You've removed everything (sound-wise) from Device Manager?
What happened then?

When I rebooted the system it says windows has found the following

it shows MS compatible sound device with the yellow splat.
