- Antivirus to run from CD-ROM?

I've found myself on occasion having to clean up people's computers because
they don't know what they're doing. While I'm not looking to restart any
flamewars as to which AV program is better than another (I've followed some
of these discussions), I'd like to know if any of the (preferably free) ones
can simply be run from a CD without having to install on the target machine.
One part of my reasoning is that a number of the viruses out there look to
disable the AV protection (if any) on the victim's box. This wouldn't be the
case on read-only media (CD). I would be using it from a CD-RW in order to
have the most recent virus defs possible.
I'm well aware that one AV can catch what another one might miss and vice
versa
(much as is the case with anti-spyware tools (I run >= 2 on my machines).
What's more important here, though, is trying to clean up the victim's
machine where he has no (or hopelessly outdated) AV protection.
Your thoughts/suggestions?
Mike

is trend's scanner. Online scanners should be up to date, whereas a cd
can't possibly be more up to date than the day the cd was manufactured.

If you can't get to an online scanner try MacAfee 'Stinger'
It only scans for the later and most common virus's, but that's often
enough.
(note it takes quite a while to run, checks all files)
Otherwise start in 'Safe' mode and install one of the free AV's from a disk
with the 'latest' updates on it. If possible install, update and run without
restarting.
Cheers
