Asking in the proper newsgroup
Posted by Mick Mc Grenaghan on August 10th, 2003

Is there a WWW site that can help you decide where best to post
specific questions or comments to newsgroups? I get 40,000 plus
groups and it can be confusing and I do not want to be off topic.
Thanks 24.

Hi
You could go here http://www.google.com/grphp?hl=en and type in what
you are looking for (example: nikon camera) and it will list the
groups "nikon camera" is mentioned in.

This is a good NG to ask for pointers to the right group. If it's a
software problem, try googling the name of the software, to see if it
has its own groups, (many do), or, for a specific problem, try
googling keywords from that problem, and see what groups come up. I
recommend using the Google Groups Advanced search, which lets you
specify dates for the search, languages for the results, etc. And, of
course, don't hesitate to ask in here "I have _this_ problem, can
someone here help me, or point me to the right place to ask?"

If I may, I'd like to say that your wanting to ask in the right group
is a good start. All the best.

Do a search for the subject matter and see which groups are discussing it.
