ATI Radeon 9800 pro problem
Posted by Demolitio on May 26th, 2004

i'm haveing troubles with my Ati Radeon 9800 pro. the FPS drops down to 30
in most games (includeing counterstrike). i have tried switching the
adjusters to "performance", instead of "quality", and have tried turning
Vsync off, but nothing seems to work (by the way, it's supposed to give me
50-80 fps in Unreal tournament 2004, but when i used the "stat fps" command
to see my framerate, i saw that it was only giving me on average 38 fps, and
sometimes even dropping down to 20.).

does anyone have any suggestions? thanks in advance.

Well, there's still a lack of sufficient information in your post. You don't
mention what resolution you're attempting to run for one. You also don't say
whether or not you've ever actually achieved the performance numbers you
think this card is "supposed to give" you. What it's "supposed to give" and
what you are experiencing are going to be dependent on a number of factors
including the resolution, how much "eye candy" you have turned on, the
available raw CPU horsepower available to the system, front side
bus/available memory bandwidth and so on. Since I dunno about your
resolution (800x600? 1024x768? 1280x1024?) I'll say that at first glance you
seem to be expecting a bit much out of a 1.4 Athlon Tbird.(I assume you mean
a 1.4 GHz Tbird which only translates into an XP 1600) designed to run on a
266 MHz FSB.

Try overclocking this beast.
