I installed Avast on my Vista laptop..I OK'ed a scan on re-
boot....while the scan was going on....the screen went black and my
laptop power light flashed orange (it *changes* to orange when it
sleeps). So I pushed the power button, thinking I would see the DOS
Avast scan again...still the black screen.

The hard drive is working hard so I *think* the scan is still
happening but I'm nervous because I can't *see* the scan happening.

Any suggestions?

Just an off-hand idea, stop the scan, turn off the sleep mode, run the scan,
turn the sleep mode back on...
