AVG anti-virus WARNING
Posted by TheNIGHTCRAWLER on November 6th, 2005

The latest ver. includes a firewall which interferes with online e-mail
and can affect newsgroup posts.

Closing the program does NOT shut down the firewall. The firewall must
be shut down from w/in the program. Hotmail, Yahoo, and Google are
affected. Netscape is not.

Tech Support from the darkside.

Just a suggestion. I liked AVG for about a year or so.
I loaded Avast Free Version and am happier and
haven't looked back. I have had an automatic update
the last three days and one day there were two updates.
It has been like this many times. I believe it is the
best free anti-virus I have ever used. Many were
flakey about the updates or you had to do it
'manually' instead of an automatice update. I believe
it is ever better and there are more updates than in
AVG. They seem to take care of the free version as well
as the paid versions. This is one I'll probably buy.
They are extremely efficient.

Have a read here:
http://www.overclockers.com/articles1260/

Avast is mentioned (the pro) in the comparative tests, but not the best one.
The frequency of updates does mean the software is good per se.

AVG documents various avg firewall problems and incompatibilites at the
site. http://www.grisoft.com/doc/42/lng/us/tpl/tpl01

For example, EL's TotalAccess isn't compatible, nor PGP Desktop Pro 9.0
and others require a reinstallation in correct sequence.
