So I updated my computer and got a bunch of Microsoft updates. When I go to
my Add/Remove programs section I see that some of the updates have a
computer icon and some have an AVG icon. Anyone care to explain this to me?

It may be a simple matter of your icon cache being
stuffed. Boot into Safe Mode and back again. This
will clear your icon cache.
