- AVG vs McAfee Viruscan Pro
- Posted by peter on September 7th, 2005
I've been using McAfee for a long time and wanted a second opinion - so
I installed AVG Pro, updated the virus file and scanned my software
archive by both programs.
McAfee told me everything is OK.
AVG told me 41 files are infected by Trojan Horse Downloader small 7 AG,
Trojan Horse Downloader 1stbar 5 BP, Trojan Horse Downloader Inservice O.
Now I'm worried (I use XP Pro.)! There seems to be no problem with the
PC at all.
Need advice from real sufferers/users/experts.

Many new trojans/viruses immediately disable your 24/7 virus scanner,
often by infecting it's /exe files. That's One reason techs say that you
should always have a second anti-virus installed but NOT running 24/7 as
a double check.

A good 'second opinion' is one that is 'off system', and unlikely to
be affected by infections already on your machine. One good one:

There are a number of others. Search Google, or this newsgroup for them.

I've been using AVG for years and have found it to be
better than most of the virus checkers you have to pay for.
