Ignore the fools who replied so far, they are both well known heavy drug
addicts and alcoholists.
Open the case and reseat the graphics card is what you should start with.

Could be a loose video cable. Or the video card may be loose in its
socket. Or if the monitor has been unplugged from the computer recently
check for bent pins in the plug.

And if the video is integrated into the motherboard, as so many

You are the one that needs to be ignored.

Off course, one can't reseat a video card integrated into the MB. On the
other hand, which fool, for crying out loud, would buy a system with an
integrated video card? Let me guess, you're one of them?
Ron, I have nothing against you. Really. But your website sucks. And about
the OP, most problems with the "no signal" issue is a loose AGP graphics
card. Hence my reply.

Does the PC make any sound and have lights flashing (esp. red HD
light) when above problem occurs? Is so, then the PC is starting but
the monitor is bad.
However if the monitor is OK, any of the following can cause the
problem (as always, you need to know what you are doing)
* Graphic card fault (use another graphics card)
* Disconnect mouse, keyboard and any other peripherals (in case of
short)
* Internal connection fault - disconnect all non-graphics PCI cards,
cables (in case of short)
* RAM fault - remove entirely or replace with known good RAM
* Reset BIOS
* Change power supply
* Reseat the CPU
* Change CPU or test existing in another PC
If none of the above enable the boot process to start, the motherboard
is probably bad.

Fools on a tight/limited budget?
Hmm, the one I hand in the shop yesterday was neither AGP nor was it
loose. The card was screwed. But like any good diagnostic, the telephone
conversation started with, "Can you check that the monitor cables are
secure please?" before jumping to conclusions based on assumptions and
making the customer pay for a call out or parts they don't need.

Exactly, and that was what I meant to say.

Sounds like the monitor cable isn't plugged in, or the monitor is not
on. For starters.
